Questions to ask your insurance company:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance/EAP cover?
  • What is my EAP auth. number and how many sessions?
  • What is the out-of-network coverage for my insurance?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • Is an authorization needed before my 1st session?
  • Is telecounseling covered by my insurance or EAP?

**IMPORTANT NOTICE:   On June 1, 2020 I will be transitioning to a new method of payment.  I will be accepting out-of-pocket payments at each session and all out-of-network insurance;  no longer will I be able to accept in-network insurance.  Clients will be given a receipt ("superbill ") that they can send to their insurance company.  A convenient option is for the client to download an app called "Reimbursify"  to their phone; the app will be found on this website page.   The client sends information from the superbill to the out-of-network insurance company by way of the app.  It can take only five minutes to set up the first claim and one minute for each subsequent claim; there is a nominal fee to Reimbursify for each claim.  The insurance company will send the allotted reimbursement directly to you, the client.  Do call your insurance company to ascertain what your out-of-network benefits are.  Please call if you have questions.    ...Terrie

I invite you to visit the following articles from www.zencare.co:

Out-of-pocket (self-pay) may be an advantage for counseling/therapy/coaching  services:

(1)  Counseling time can be flexible, instead of being limited to the strict insurance 45'-60' sessions.

(2)  Telecounseling (video/telephone) is available for all clients within the state (which adds convenience for illness, bad weather, transportation challenges, and vacation/work within the state).

(3)  The client does not need to be labeled with a diagnosis (which some people prefer) or they may not even have a mental health diagnosis.

(4) Most often EMDR treatment can be completed in one extended session, rather than having to continue one or two weeks later.

(5)  Those whose needs may not be covered by insurance ( such as couple's and marriage counseling, pre-marriage prep, family discord, and work situations) are eligible for out-of-pocket counseling.

(6)  Some individuals may need several sessions within a few days (such as out-of towners who can only come to Boise occasionally); insurance generally does not allow for that.

(7)  Often the out-of-pocket counselor/therapist/coach will be more skilled--  with many years of experience,  a wide knowledge base, and a larger "tool-kit".

(8)  Many clients now have high deducible clauses on their insurance policies that will not pay for the counseling sessions; sometimes that comes as a surprise to the client later on down the counseling road.

Most insurances will be accepted until June 1, 2020.

At that time, I will be making a transition to accepting out-of-pocket payments/

self pay, and out-of-network insurance (OON) (as explained above).
